Subject: Update on billiard activity

As you all know we will be getting new carpeting this year. It was scheduled for March 1 however has been postponed till May 1. The billiard room will be closed for 2 weeks at that time. There will be no open play for that period. All tournaments will be cancelled as well as league activity. All players will be allowed to play as usual on the tables in the gallery.
While the room is closed we will be refurbishing the tables. As soon as the carpeting is complete the tables will be repositioned and then leveled and recovered. This will be completed during that two week period.
We are supposed to get new furniture this year. It is being brought before the board this month, I think. It looks positive that we will get them. I spoke to Otto and he said they have been picked out by management and assures us they are very nice and good quality. They are leather with arms and holders for cues and drinks.
We are all aware that our tables are not holding up as previously planned. We are working with management on a proposal for new tables. We are trying to get this approval for January of 2018 rather than in 2019 as previously planned. Hopefully this will happen.
Due to the carpet installation and room closer we need to decide what to do about the leagues. We planned for a twenty week season which took us through May 23 for the Tuesday league and May 24 for the Wednesday league. I need players to notify us of any ideas they may have to complete the season. The concern is that we meet the needs of the teams as we know many players start leaving for summer travel around that time. We do have to have playoffs and this would have been the two weeks after the season ended. The Friday am B/C league will also be cancelled for May 5 and May 12. We have a few options to consider and players may have other ideas. Right now these are some choices.
1. Do not play those two weeks. Instead of a twenty week season it would be 18 weeks. This would lower the prize distribution list by $420 for the Tuesday league and $480 for the Wednesday league. This would be distributed through all six teams in each league. It would also mean that each team would not play all the teams the same number of times.
2. Play the two weeks on alternate nights. For example: The week before we close play Monday and Tuesday night and Wednesday and Thursday morning. Then do the same thing the week we reopen. That keeps us right on track.
3. Add the two weeks on to the end of the season. That would mean playing Tuesday May 30 and June 6. Also playing Wednesday May 31 and June 7. Then playoffs would be after that for 1-2 weeks.
4. Regardless of how we decide to play the regular weeks we also have the option of playing the playoffs in 1 week rather than 2 by using more tables. This might take a little longer on Tuesday night but not much longer.
All flight leaders please plan and remind your players there will be no afternoon tournaments after Friday 4/28/17. They will resume again Monday 5/15/17.
Also if there was a Saturday tournament planned for that time it will need to be cancelled.
All of these options need to be thought about and discussed with your teams. Players can send me a message if they think of any other options. We will ask captains to then meet with Louis and I to make the final decisions. All captains should plan to meet before the start of league play on April 4 and 5 to give us your decisions.
